Semantic SEO: How To Use It

For many years, digital marketers used to stuff keywords in their articles and created tons of backlinks without any actual value. The result was tons of low-quality content around the internet. However, Google is smarter these days that a few years ago. One of the features that help them to find the best results for each keyword is called Semantic SEO.

The focus of the semantic search is on the relevancy, quality, and readability of the content. These elements can make a huge improvement in your organic rankings. You want to avoid keyword stuffing or focusing only on writing for search engines. There are three types of keywords or content ideas that you can use to get the maximum from Semantic SEO.

  1. Topics
  2. Concepts
  3. Keywords

Topics

Instead of creating short articles for every possible keyword out there, you can create content for board terms that include multiple keywords. The writer should be able to break down the content in many subheadings that will include many keywords naturally.

For example, you may have read these lengthy ultimate guides on different topics. They cover a board keyword and do their best to answer every possible question of the topic. If you get ranked on the first page of a board keyword, you can expect more traffic. However, you can get ranked for multiple keywords with less traffic that are relevant to the topic. So, the starting point for a new website would be to create a list of topics that could be relevant to the niche of the site.

Concepts

You can imagine the concepts as sub-categories of the topic. If you create content about a board term, you will need to break it down in many pieces. Doing some research for the most relevant concepts in a topic could give a better idea about what the users expect to read.

The concepts must be relevant to your niche and brand as well. Relevancy works both for SEO and business. Also, if you have created content on these concepts before, you can link it from your new lengthy articles as additional resources.

Keywords

You want to include keywords in your articles, but they must make sense and be super relevant to the topic. Based on your topic, you can create an additional list of keywords. You can use the keyword tool of Google Ads to find plenty of long-tail keywords. You don’t have to use all of them but only the ones that fit your articles naturally. I usually use most search for keywords that don’t have a lot of competition and I concentrate on long tail keywords.

What is Semantic Search?

Semantic search means ‘search with a meaning’. It is the study is a data searching technique which determines the intent of the searcher before the search engine presents the results.

According to SEMRUSH

What is Semantic Search?

Semantic search is ‘search with a meaning’.

‘Semantics’ is the study of the words and their logic and semantic search is essentially a data searching technique that understands the meaning of the words and determines the intent of the user before presenting the search results. Semrush describes semantic search as the following:

The semantic search takes into account the following factors:

1. Natural language understanding.

2. User context.

3. Query stream context.

4. Entity recognition.

Down To The Semantics

Getting ranked on the first page of Google does not have to be complicated. You need to break down topics into concepts and use relevant keywords to your content. If you understand your audience and know what the users want, it’s easy to get results.

Lastly, you need to consider the user experience. Great and relevant content alone is not enough, but you must take care of all the elements of a website like design, page loading time, and the structure of the site. If you put them all together, you have a good SEO strategy.
